ROXBURGH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ÜBual fortnightly meeting was held in the Council Chambers on the 18th inst. Present : P. Ormond (Mayor) and Crs Speid, Dalton, Pitchers, Woodhouse, and Cormack. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was received since the last meeting, held on the 7th January, from John Beighton, re damage to culvert in Hawick-street by the water ; also requesting information as to when the Council purpose having submitted for sale the residence areas as directed by the Roxburgh Reserves Act, 1876.— From D. 0. Dalton requiring the Council to proceed forthwith to appoint a competent person to value his buildings and brickyard, embracing an area of three acres, under the provisions of the Roxburgh Reserves Act, 1876-7. — From Humphrey Grover, asking that Mr Manuel be appointed to value his improvements on residence area on the Reserve. — From T. S. Grover objecting to the survey made by the Council on his residence area, and requesting a higher valuation. — Patrick Rickard and John Lumiuate asking for a new valuation on their improvements under the Reserves Act, 1876. . Resolved that Mr Begg be instructed to take the levels along Scotland-street, from Ormond's Hotel to the Albion HoteL The Town Clerk was instructed to call for tenders for putting the Town Water Race in a thorough state of repair. The Clerk was instructed to get legal advice from Mr Wilson, of Clyde, re a re-valuation of residence areas under the Roxburgh Reserves Act, 1876 ; and also the mode of procedure in respect of Dalton 's claim under the same Act, and also under the 1877 Act. On the motion of Cr Cormack, seconded by Or Pitchers, it was resolved that a special meeting be held on the evening of the 25th inst., to receive Mr Begg's report of the Scotland-street levels ; Cr Woodhouse's and Mr Burton's re Town Race ; and Mr Wilson's opinion re Roxburgh Reserves Act, 1876-7. The following accounts were presented and ordered to be paid : — R. L. Begg for valuing, £2 2s ; H. Wise and Co., six copies of the Municipal Corporations Act, Hugh Evans, 11£ days' labour at Town Race, £4 145.
