The second and final qualifying round of the British open golf championship was concluded at Gullane and at Muirfield to-day. At Muirfield. 109 competitors with aggregates of 153 and better, qualified, including all the Americans. The players in the morning were handicapped by a mist, which reduced visibility to fifty yards. Cotton suffered as a result of this and drove into the rough at the first seven holes. Nevertheless he went out in thirtythree. Picard was unfortunate on the previous night in finishing in mist, and it was also misty when he went out again this morning, resulting in his being nearly eliminated. Lawson-Little saved himself with a two at the thirteenth and, although he played when the weather had improved. he drove erratically. Mitchell, plaving under the worst conditions, had a marvellous 71. Cotton and Burton lead the field with scores of 141. Leading Scores. Others to qualify were MacdonaldSmith and J. J. Busson, 142; C.
