Rough Rugby.

Dear Sir,—l read with interest a letter in your paper on the subject of playing Rugby. I quite agree with the writer that there is far too much of playing the man instead of the ball. I witnessed a match in Hagley Park on Saturday afternoon, and for a first-class wrestling match Cy Williams had nothing on these players. I am afraid the referees are too lenient, or is it that our Rugby Union wants reorganising? I think the latter; at least it would appear so to me as only a few Saturdays ago one of the union officials spoke to a referee after the game. If this sort of thing is allowed one cannot wonder at the referees’ reluctance to be strict with the players. Rugby is a wonderful sport, but there has been far too many casualties lately.—l am, etc., RUGBY SPORT.
