NEARLY TRAPPED.

Man’s Escape Cut Off by Flames. Running back into the blazing Victoria Guest House to recover his clothing, Mr O. C. Anderson, of Mildura. narrowly escaped death when the building was destroyed in the early morning recently, says the Melbourne “Herald.” As he entered his room, the flames closed in behind him, and blocked the passageway. Two men outside heard him hammering on the wall of his room. They smashed a window, through which Anderson was able to escape. The alarm was given by the lessee. Mrs J. Henderson, who aw'oke to see smoke filling her room, and flames leaping across the ceiling. The seven guests lost most of their personal belongings. The damage is estimated at nearly £7OO. The building was one of the oldest guest houses in Mildura.
