LAWN TENNIS.

Edgeware Club’s Satisfactory Year. IN STRONG POSITION. The report on the year’s work of the Edgeware Tennis Club presented -at the annual meeting last evening showed an improvement in the financial position. Mr A. C. Wilson presided. The report stated that the club’s thanks were again due to the guarantors of the club’s overdraft, Messrs J. W. Beanland, J. o. Chapman, W r . E. Simes and J. D. Colville. The club roll now stood at 61 women, 66 men and 14 school children. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman congratulated the club on the satisfactory state of its finances, and expressed the hope that the coming season would show an even greater improvement and a larger number of members. The balance-sheet revealed an excess of assets over liabilities of £IOO9 9s 9d. Assets stood at £IOS7 3s 2d and outstanding subscriptions, £ls. The bank overdraft was £B9 10s lid, compared with £127 16s at May 31, 1934. Subscriptions for 1934-35 amounted to £154 2s 6d. Election of Officers. The election of officers was as follows: President, Mr J. E. Gagliardi; vice-president, Mr J. R. Crocker; club captain? Mr A. C. Wilson and Mrs E. R. Ecroyd; honorary secretary, Mr C. K. Williams: honorary treasurer, Mr R. J. Robertson; management committee, Mrs R. M. Forgie, Miss D. Toon, Miss M. Legg, Messrs W. A. Clothier, J. Collins, R. J. Richardson, R. W. Joyce and H. R. Lake; honorary auditor, Mr D. M. Mcßae. The following delegates to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association were chosen, Messrs W. R. Clothier, A. C. Wilson and R. W. Joyce. Speaking on the occasion of his resignation as treasurer, Mr Mcßae stressed the urgent necessity of adequate financial provision for the future of the club. The club’s funds must be conserved, he said, for the renewals which would he necessary Avithin the next two or three years. He suggested that if each .present member brought a new one into the club, a big step would be taken towards eliminating the club’s overdraft.
