“LORNA DOONE.”
Blackmore’s Great Romance Brought to Screen. Few’ books in English literature hold vhe position of Blackmore’s “ Lorna Doone.” The love story of John Ririd and the beautiful Lorna is familiar to thousands. The film version is new showing at the Plaza Theatre and it is a triumph of screen adaptation. The most fervent admirer of the . classic could not accuse the producers of taking any liberties with the book: It is all there. The characters have been faithfully copied from Blackmore’s description and the romance and action cf the story are presented against a background of the beautiful Devon countryside and the rolling downs of Exmoor. John Loder, big, strong, and a man of the open air, is well cast as John Ridd. He is equally good as the humble lover and the determined avenger in his assaults against the strength of the outlawed Doones. Victoria Hopper gives a most impressive performance as Lorna. There is a strong supporting programme.
