PLUNKET SOCIETY.

Conference Arranged for . July. The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms, Chester Street, when Mrs J. Stevenson presided over a good attendance. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs E. R. McCombs, M.P., was passed. The resignation of Mrs F. J. Delamain was received with great regret. The provincial conference will be held in Christchurch on July 3<», and the following delegates were appointed:—Mesdames A. F. Wright, A. R. Bloxam, V. C. Mathews, J. Stevenson, M. H. Godby, C. Chilton. W. S. Newburgh, S. P. Godfrey, J. W, Niven, P. Greenwood and N. McGillivray. Final arrangements were made for the annual meeting, which will be held on Wednesday next, Nurses’ Reports. The matron of the Lady King Karitane Hospital reported that twelve babies had been admitted, thirteen discharged and fifteen were in hospital. At the mothers’ cottage, four mothers had been admitted, five discharged arid three were in residence. For the central rooms. Nurse Allan reported:—Pre-natal section: N<Av cases 38, return visits 127. casual visits 31. Post-natal section: f New cases (babies only), city and suburbs 103, out-stations 13, number of babies under supervision 2164. Visits to homes: City and suburbs 518, outstations 56. Pre-school children: New cases 40, children seen 201. Pre-school children under supervision 1813. Visits to the central and suburban rooms totalled 2241 adults and ISOO babies. Visits to outstation rooms totalled 220 adults, 205 babies and 41 older children. Classes for Girl Guides and deaconesses are in progress during the evenings. Nurse Allan had holiday leave during May and Nurse Merton is still on sick leave. Gifts are gratefully acknowledged from the pupils of the Avonside Girls’ High School, Mrs N. Buchanan. Mrs R. H. Smith, Mrs J. Stevenson and Mrs E. Wilson. Hornby Sub-Branch. At the monthly meeting of the Hornby sub-brnnch of the Plunket Society, Mrs J. Gunderson presided. A motion of sympathy with the vice-president (Mrs W. J. Leslie) in the loss of her father Preliminary arrangements made in connection with the spring flower fete to be held in the Orange Hall on October 12 were discussed. Stall-holders appointed at the previous meeting reported progress, and that donations had already been made or promised. For competitions to be conducted in aid of the funds, Mrs Skerton had given a rich iced fruit cake and Mr Johansen a large home-made basket, filled with produce. Early next month, the proprietor ot Circuit Pictures will give a special screening of a good programme in aid of the society funds. The sub-branch hod already received assistance from this source and this further generous offer was accepted with acclamation. It was decided to hold the annual Plunket ball in the Orange Hall. Hornby, on August 6. preceded by a fancy dress parade and dance for chtl* dren. Ticket prices were fixed at 2s and Is 6d, and 6d for children. The president reminded members that the annual general meeting of the society would be held in the .Tellieoe - alt at 2.30 p.m. next Wednesday.
