MAORI MISSIONS.
In order to stimulate interest in Maori missions, the Methodist Women’s Missionary Union has arranged for Sister Eleanor Dobhy, who for many s*ears has been at work among the Maoris in the Hokkmga district, to tour the South Island. She has now reached Christchurch. and on Friday addressed a wellattended meeting, held in the Durham Street Schoolroom, under the auspices of the local auxiliary. The platform was effectively arranged in native fashion bv Mrs J. Manchester, mats and carvings being kindly lent by Mrs H. L. Blamires and Mrs A. T. Fraer. Mrs Frank Thompson, the president, was in the chair. Associated with her were Mrs G. Bowron (past president), Mrs W. Moor (secretary!. Mrs ,T. Manchester (treasurer) and Mrs H. L. Rlamires. Sister Lina Jones, on furlough from the Solomon Islands, was a welcome visitor. Musical items were contributed by Mrs T. W West. Mrs E. Johnson and Miss Heni Taylor, a Maori deaconess student, who sang in her native tongue. Sister Eleanor charmed her audience with her graphic account of Maori life and customs, ancient and modern. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs Clarence Eaton. Mrs J. P. Whetter. Mrs C. H. Opie and helpers. This was followed by a questionnaire, by means of which Sister E'eanor imparted information which will be turned to good account by the members.
