Notes From the Course.

AUCKLAND, This Day. Ilaakon (£997) was the favourite, with Sandy Dix (£426) and Gascelle (£321) the next best backed in the Hunt Club Cup event. King Rod came to grief at the first fence. Going over the double in front of the stand, Bells of Bow was in command from Sandy Dix, Gascelle, Forest Glow, Haakon, Victor Colima, Cromwell, Ali, Zane Grey and Cornerman. At the brush fence near the mile post, Sandy Dix slipped on landing and nearly lost his rider. Along the back, Bells of Bow was followed by Cromwell, Gascelle, Sandy Dix, Haakon, Zane Grey and Victor Colima. Up the hill the last time round Bells of Bow was attended by Cromwell, Gascelle, Haakon, Forest Glow, Zane Grey and Sandy Dix. Turning into the straight Cromwell was well clear of Haakon, with Gascelle and Bells of Bow next. Once over the last fence Haakon stayed on best to win by two lengths from Cromwell, who beat Forest Glow by five lengths. Gascelle was fourth, with Bells of Bow, Sandy Dix and Zane Grey next.

Ranfurly Handicap. Solaria (£799) was best backed in the Ranfurly Handicap, good money also coming in for Salesman (£550) and Prince Acre (£530), while On Parade carried £399. When they were fairly settled down. Supreme Ruler, Solomon and Solaria were leading from Prince Acre, Salesman, Tin Lap, Silver Brier and Nicodemus. Solaria, Solomon and Prince Acre were together crossing the top, attended by Tin Lap, Salesman, Silver Brier and Gay Egypt. The three leaders were still on terms at the home turn with Salesman, On Parade, Silver Brier, Tin Lap and Holly Lu following in that order. Once straightened up for home, On Parade ran to the front and went on to beat Prince Acre by two lengths and a half, with Solaria half a head further away third. Then came Silver Brier, Holly* Lu, Salesman, Solomon, Gay Egypt, Hunting Maid, Flit Acre and Dark Marble. Remuera Hurdles. Stanchion was a good favourite for the Remuera Hurdle Handicap, carrying £7OO. Verden was second choice with £592, and there was support for Rasouli, Val Watch and Master Musk, the last-named to the extent of £378. Rasouli made a bad jump at the third hurdle and nearly came down. Passing the stand Val Watch and Valpai were together in front from Booklaw, Verden, Master Musk, Stanchion, Cargen, King Win and Rasouli. Along the back the order was Val Watch, Booklaw, Valpai (who put in a faulty jump by the hurdles near the six furlong post), Verden, Master Musk, Stanchion, Cargen, King Win and Hasouli. Crossing the top, Booklaw, Val Watch, Verden, Stanchion, Master Musk, Valpai and Rasouli was the order. Verden and Val Watch were together in the lead turning into the straight just in front of Stanchion, with Master Musk handy, followed by Booklaw, Rasouli and Valpai. In the straight Stanchion came through to win well by a length from Master Musk, with Val Watch a length and a half away. Then followed Verden, Rasouli, Booklaw, Valpai and Cargen, with King Win a long way back.

LARGE N.Z. ENTRY

(Special to the “Star.” WELLINGTON, This Day. Although the entries received in Australia for the big spring events are smaller than usual, a big list of New Zealand entries for these races was sent this morning from Wellington. It numbered in all 564, as against 483 last year. New Zealand nominations for Australian Jockey Club (Sydney) races totalled 269, as compared with 224 in 1934. The New Zealand total for the Victorian Racing Club’s events was 134, or one less than last year. For the Warwick Farm (Sydney) and Rosehill (Sydney) events, the entries showed a big increase, thus indicating that most Dominion teams will be leaving for Australia early next spring. The only southern horses in the Epsom are Silver Coat, Friday Night and Isaacs (Blenheim), and in The Metropolitan Tauramai, Vintage, Friday Night and Isaacs. Melbourne Cup entries made in Wellington were Sporting Blood, Woton, Le Grand, Prostration, Perfect Idea, Red Manfred, Legatee, Gold Trail and Isaacs. An interesting entrant in the Australian Hurdles race, to be run at Caulfield on August 3, is Stanchion, wha won the Great Northern Hurdles race on Monday.
