CLASH OF DATES.
Caused by Postponement of Forbury Trots. JUBILEE HOLIDAY FIXTURES. (Special to the *‘ Star.”) DUNEDIN, This Day. Owing the heavy rain this morning and the track being under water in parts the Forbury trots have been postponed till Saturday and Alonday. Asked this morning, how the decision of the Forbury Park Trotting Club to race on Saturday and Monday, would affect his club, Air L. G. Hill, secretary of the Dunedin Jockey Club, said definitely that his club would carry on with its meeting. Dunedin will now have two meetings on Monday, the Dunedin Jockey Club’s races at Wingatui and the trots at Forbury, a clash which will mean a loss for one or the other on that day—most likely the Jockey Club seeing that Forbury is handy to town and more likely to draw a crowd.
There was trouble originally between the two clubs over the dates, both wanting the holiday and now Forbury has got what it wanted—Monday as one of its days.
The position is an extraordinary sequel to the rivalry between the Dunedin trotting and racing clubs to secure the holiday date. Both applied for it, and the decision, which gave the date to the Jockey Club, appeared to cause considerable ill-feeling in some quarters. Methven Will Race. Air J. F. Stone, secretary of the Methven Trotting Club, states that his club will hold its meeting, postponed from last Saturday, on Alonday despite the Forbury Park change. Not a great many horses hold engagements at both meetings though there is the difficulty that a number of Canterbury trotting men are attending the Dunedin fixture. Dunedin Jockey Club Enters Protest. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, This Day. With reference to the decision of the Forbury Park Club to race next Monday on the same day as the Dunedin Jockey Club, the latter has telegraphed a protest to the Department of Internal Affairs against the Forbury Club being allowed to use its totalxsator permit on that day and also has forwarded a protest to the president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference.
