PRIVATE PURCHASE?
Christchurch Home for New Governor- General. Although it was denied by the Minister of Public Works last night that the Government intended buying a house in Christchurch as a residence for the new Governor-General. Lord Galway, and Lady Galway, it was learned this morning that definite negotiations are being made from another source. Reliable information given to the “ Star ” this morning was that the Government would not be concerned with the purchase of a Vice-Regal residence in Christchurch. It was more than likely that the purchase, would be private. The probable purchase is still “ Hambleden,” the Bealey Avenue residence of Mr and Mrs G. Oakleigh Gieenwood.
