PARLIAMENT’S WORK.
Programme Outlined by Prime Minister. “ Star ” Parliamentary Reporter. WELLINGTON, March 11. The Prime Minister stated to-night that the Rural Mortgagors and Tenants Final Adjustment Bill is to be introduced into the House to-morrow afternoon, and as he considered there had been extensive discussion of the subject of rehabilitation of mortgagors during consideration of the Mortgage Corporation Bill, the second reading of the new measure could reasonably be taken later in the day. The first business would be the committee stage of the Broadcasting Bill. Though the Government’s legislative programme is extremely limited and the only further Bill announced is the Native Land Amendment, embodying the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Native land development, it also is intended, possibly in a short Finance Bill, to safeguard the position of Mr Justice Frazer, who is asked to relinquish his judicial position and its superannuation rights for appointment as deputy-chairman of the Executive, Commission of Agriculture, which has a five-year period and no superannuation. Not for General Debate. It was originally intended that the Government should give the House an opportunity of discussing the Imperial Government’s meat levy proposal, but as New Zealand’s reply has been sent forward and the matter is now regarded as being in a difficult state of negotiation, there is not likely to be a general debate.
