HOUSES FOR WORKERS.
Government Evolving Scheme. Plans for a comprehensive housing scheme for the workers of New Zealand are likely to be placed before the public shortly. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.), in referring to a statement made by the Minister of Finance in the House of Representatives last week, said that Mr Coates definitely gave the House the impression that the Government was going to develop a housing scheme, and was equally clear on the point that the scheme would require the co-operation of the local bodies. The Christchurch City Council would assist in the scheme provided it /as evolved on the right lines.
