Who Pays the Taxes?

Dear Sir,—lt is said that the Hospital Boards are to meet at a conference in Napier and are going to suggest a compulsory insurance scheme. This will naturally affect the lowest wage-earners. I myself earn a paltry few shillings a week and had to drop a private insurance as I could not keep up my instalments. How are people like myself going to pay all these compulsory levies and the like? A few of the big men get together and make these suggestions, but never give a thought how it is to be met. It is only taking bread and necessary clothing from the low wageearners. Tax those who are able to pay it No one earning under £2 per week should be asked to pay taxes at all.—l am, etc., WANT FAIRNESS.
