NOT EXONERATED.

Driver of Car that Knocked Down Woman. Fer Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 18. “ On the evidence before me I cannot exonerate the driver from blame,” said Mr F. K. Hunt, Coroner, at an inquest into the death of Mrs Alice Brierly, aged sixty-two, who was struck by a car driven by R. E. Ilinde and who died in the Auckland Hospital as a result of severe head injuries received in the accident. In returning a verdict that Mrs Brierly’s death occurred as a result of head injuries received through being struck by a car driven by Ilinde on December 10, the Coroner said: “ Here is a case of a woman crossing the road when visibility was stated by the driver himself to be good. She was seen when the car was 40ft away. Yet she was struck by the car. I am not able to exonerate the driver from blame on the evidence before me, and I think further inquiries should be made.”
