BIG CLAIM FAILS.

Allegation of Negligence Not Upheld. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, February IS. A claim for more than £IOOO damages was made in the Supreme Court as a sequel to a motor accident that occurred in Anzac Avenue on May 1 of last year. On that date Hector Percy John Shaw, of Tauranga, a retired Lieu-tenant-Colonel of the Indian Army, was knocked down and severely injured by a motor-car driven by Albert Leslie , Bullen. Shaw claimed £BOO general damages and £212 14s for hospital and medical expenses from Bullen. Plaintiff claimed that the accident was due to the excessive speed of defendant’s car and other negligence on the part of defendant, but defendant denied negligence and alleged that.the accident was due to plaintiff’s failure to exercise reasonable care in crossing the street. The jury gave a verdict for defendant.
