Picnic and Sports at Coe’s Ford. About 400 a<?ults and children took part in the annual picnic of the Christchurch police force, which was held* at Coe’s Ford, under enjoyable conditions. on Saturday. A lengthy sports programme was carried out, the sports area which has been formed recently being found ideal for the purpose. Among those present were Superintendent D. J. Cummings, Inspector A. Cameron and Sub-Inspector D. A. M’Lean. The committee responsible for the organisation of the picnic consisted of the following:—Constables D. G. M. Simpson T. Flewellen. D. Williams and Cunningham, Detectives Herron and Kempt and Constable H. M. Ilvlands. who officiated as secretary. Among the trophies which were competed for was a cup presented by Superintendent Cummings, awarded to the member of the police force gaining most points in the athletic events, and which is to be competed for annually until it is won by the same person twice, when it becomes his property. Constable D. G. M. Simpson, with *6 points, won the cup. Constables P. Burns, Wilkes and Fowler, Sergeant T. Moore and Detective-Sergeant Jarrold, with 3 points each, tied for second place, and in a run-off Sergeant Moore secured second place. Inspector Cam- i eron presented a valuable clock for the siot putt event, which attracted? keen competition. Superintendent Cummings thanked the donors of the trophies. Conn Handicap—Sergeant T.
