ANNUAL PICNICS.

Aranui School Pupils at Stewart’s Gully. PROGRAMME OF SPORTS. About one hundred pupils and seventy parents and friends spent the day at Stewart’s Gully on Friday on the occasion of the Aranui School picnic. The day was spent in sports and games, and during the afternoon some of the children were taken for an excursion to Kaiapoi by launch. A cricket match between the senior boys and ex-pupils resulted in a draw. In addition to the organised programme of sports every child of pre-school age received a prize. The following were prize-winners:— Senior events—Married women’s race, .Mrs Williams; stepping competition. Miss R. Rhodes; consolation race, Mrs Palermo; single women’s race, Miss Jordan; elopement race, Miss Scrimgour and Mr C. Martin; married men’s race, Mr Belgrave; ex-pupils, Brian Nye; coconut competition, Mesdames Miller, Wil-, son, S'. L. Boyd and Miss Rhodes. Children’s events—Shirley Boyd, Douglas Timperley, Wm. Richardson, Keith Seeker, Olwyn Perryman, Joyce Whittaker, Jean van Rieman, Margaret Cook, R. Chapman, L. Ireland, Joyce Moody, Neil Dickie, L. Rennie, Garth Beardsley, W. Ireland, Loe Williams, R. Bussell, A. Houghton, James Kirkpatrick, Jack Kirkpatrick. Sunday School Outing. An enjoyable day was spent on Saturday by about 120 members and friends of the South Brighton Methodist Sunday School, when the annual picnic was held in the Heathcote Recreation Ground. The organising committee consisted of Mrs J. Cain, Miss J. Buckley, Messrs E. Scrivener, R. Buxton, A. Wayman and A. E. Lawry (superintendent). A large section of the picnickers walked over the Bridle Path to Lyttelton. The results of the sports were as follows:—Girls’ events—Tiny tots: Melba Larcombe 1, Greba Douglas 2, Nora. Hawker 3. Mr N. Perry’s class: Joan Watts 1, Audrey Foster 2, Iris Higgins 3. Three-legged race: Marjorie Milne and Betty Gobbe 1, Nola Haley and Norma Christensen 2. Miss J. Buckley's class: Betty Bach 1, Marjorie Milne 2, Joan Burtt 3. Mr Lawry’s class: Ethne Buckler and Sylvia Fisher (equal) 1, Nola Haley 3. Boys’ events—Tinv tots: David Campbell 1, Billie Mitchell 2, Colin Woodward 3. Mr E. Scott’s class: Eric Burtt 1. Mr E. Scrivener’s class: Harold Foster 1, John Douglas 2. Married women’s race—Mrs E.
