Reports and Returns From Operations. NEW REGULATIONS. Additions and amendments to the Mining Act, 1926, are contained in the latest Gazette. The additions comprise regulations governing the holding of claim and prospecting licenses, certificates of competency, the timbering of alluvial workings, blocking-out operations, shaft sinking, and the prescribed forms for setting out statements of the affairs of mining companies. The amendments include alterations in the survey and boundary arrangements, the forwarding of statements of affairs, examinations, first aid and general operations. Regulation 28 has been amended by substituting the following: (a) For a special river claim the area shall not exceed 100 acres, and not more than one mile of the course of the stream shall be comprised therein; (b) for a special dredging claim the area shall not exceed 1000 acres, and not more than one mile of the course of a stream shall be comprised therein. Zlectrolytic Zinc. Klectrolytic Zinc Company of Australasia, Limited, advises that the new unit of the zinc plant at Risdon will be put into commission early in March, thus increasing production of zinc from 54,000 tons to 70,000 tons per annum. This unit will continue in operation for approximately twelve months, using accumulated stocks of raw material. Its operation after that period will depend on conditions then existing and more particularly on the prices of zinc, lead and silver being sufficiently high to permit of opening the company's mines on the West Coast of Tasmania for production. Brian Born Dredge. GREYMOUTH, February 17. The Brian Born dredge return for last week was 15oz 2dwt for 110 hours’ work and 13,500 cubic yards. Mosey Creek Dredge. GREYMOUTH, February 17. The Mossy Creek dredge returned 18oz 12dwt from 4000 cubic yards. Operations were restricted by lack of water owing to the drought Golden Dawn Company. The Golden Dawn Company reports that for the twelve working davs ended February 4. 303 tons of ore were treated for a return of £1075, with realisation estimated at £7 2s per gold oz. The Big River report for the week ended February 14 states:— No. 4 South Drive—Advanced 6ft. There is no development of value in this face up to date. Stopes looking well. Stone 6ft wide. Rise 45ft up from floor of level. Full face of stone. No. 4 South Drive—Advanced 7ft. The footwall leader is still in face but has not made wider to any extent.
