HEROIC ACTION.
Rescue From Drowning by Poor Swimmer. Albert Robert Nash, aged twenty-one years, who was employed during construction at the Waitaki hydro-electric works, was yesterday afternoon presented with a framed letter of commendation by the Royal Humane Society in recognition of his bravery in saving the life of Mrs Margaretta Lusher, of Waitaki Hydro, who was on the point of drowning in the Waitaki River on January 30. Mr F. I. Cowlishaw made the presentation, the Rey Canon W. S. Bean, president of the society, being unavoidably absent. Mr Cowlishaw said that there had been a full investigation of the case before the award had been made. “ You were not an expert swimmer at the time and in going to the rescue you risked your own life to save that of another,” he said to Mr Nash. The presentation was made in the presence of Sir Cyril Ward, Mr W. H. Nicholson and the court of directors of the society.
