PIPE BANDS.

Officers Elected at Annual Conference. Per Press Association. TIMARU, This Day. At the annual Pipe Bands’ Conference, Mr T. Gilchrist, of Dunedin, presided, and the delegates were welcomed by the president of the Timaru Pipe Band. The remit by Dunedin recommending that the winning band be awarded the following medals, was carried:—Pipemajor and drum-major, gold medals; remainder, silver medals. Mr M’Call moved a remit from Dunedin that a contest be staged for drummers. It was emphasised that pipers and drummers were only parts of the unit of a band, and it would be unwise to make the distinction. After some discussion the remit was withdrawn. It was decided that the entry fee for contests should be five guineas, without refund. A remit that the selected items be sent to all bands nine months before the contest was withdrawn. After a discussion on the halving of points, it was agreed that points should not be halved. The following executive remit was carried: —“ That a special general meeting be held wherever a Dominion contest is held; and the annual meeting be held where the executive is domiciled.” Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mr Telfer (Christchurch); vice-presidents, South Island, Mr T. Gilchrist (Dunedin), North Island, Mr G. Lauchlan (Wellington); secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Johnson (Christchurch) ; auditor, Mr G. Seay (Christchurch).
