BRITISH SAILORS’ SOCIETY.

Mrs H. T. J. Thacker presided at the last meeting of the committee of the Christchurch branch of the Ladies' Guild of the British Sailors’ Society; present—Lady Aciand, Mesdames J. H. Hall, J. B. Beckett, G. Hanmer, H. R. Hamilton, S. L. Partridge and G. W. C. Smithson, Misses B. Sanders and M. C. Fryer. A welcome was extended to Mrs J. H. Hall on her return from England, and also to Mrs Hanmer. The report of the hospital visitors, Mrs J. S. Thomson and Mrs Partridge, was that no seamen patients were in hospital in December, but four had been visited last month. Two of these were from H.M.A.S. Australia, and they were grateful for the visits paid to them. Mrs Thacker reported that a generous response had been made by members of the branch to the appeal for ditty bags, and that they were much appreciated by the sailors. A special vote of thanks was passed to Mrs T. G. Russell for her gift of cigarettes. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on Monday, March 18.
