DINNER TO DELEGATES.
Visiting Master Bakers Entertained. Since the annual conference of the New Zealand Master Bakers and Pastrycooks Association opened in Christchurch on Tuesday, delegates have been busily engaged in attending to the many matters affecting the welfare of the association on the conference agenda paper. Last evening the more serious business of the conference was forgotten when delegates and their friends to the number of 150 attended a dinner given at the New City Hotel for the visitors by Distributors, Ltd. The short toast list was followed by items given by leading Christchurch entertainers. In proposing the toast of “The Master Bakers and Pastrycooks’ Association,” Mr R. K. Ireland welcomed those present on behalf of the directors of Distributors, Ltd. He congratulated* the president of the association, Mr Cowan, and the executive on the success they had met with in the organisation of the thirty-fourth conference. Mr Cowan, in reply, said the conference was a tribute to the work of the executive, as it was the largest ever held in New Zealand by the Master Bakers and Pastrycooks Association. Other toasts honoured were: “Kindred Associations” (proposed by Mr F. H. Hawker and responded to by Mr H. E. West); “Allied Trades” (proposed by Mr C. Lange and responded to by Mr R. M’Pherson) ; “Life Members” (proposed by Mr H. P. Burton and responded to by Mr J. T. Norton, sen., and other life members).
