Naval Officer’s Heroism Rewarded. SAVED MAN’S LIFE. British Official Wireless. (Received February 14, 1.20 p.m.) RUGBY, February 13. The Stanhope Gold Medal, awarded by the Royal Humane Society for “ the bravest deed of the year,” has been presented to a naval officer. Lieutenant Hugh Richardson. In darkness on a January morning and in heavy weather Richardson dived fully clothed from H.M.S. Wolfhound in an attempt to rescue a man. Having tried unsuccessfully to tow the man to a buoy, he fetched the buoy to the man. and having helped to get him into the boat which was launched, was himself rescued only with great difficulty some time later.
