AIR LINK WITH N.Z.
Mr Adam Hamilton’s Mission in Australia. SYDNEY, February 11. Mr Adam Hamilton (New- Zealand Postmaster-General), accompanied by Mr G. M’Namara (secretary of his department), arrived by the Monowai to hold conferences with the Commonwealth authorities and the British air delegation concerning air mail services. Mr Hamilton said that New Zealand was very interested in an air link with Australia, which the Dominion was prepared to subsidise, but he did not think the Government would accept the terms of the “ fiat rate ” air mail rates which the British Government proposed for 1937, as that would be very costly to New Zealand. During the afternoon Mr Hamilton called on the Federal Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons), the Minister of Commerce (Dr Earle Page) and the Post-master-General (Senator M’Lachlan). He had conferences with Messrs Harold Clapp and Charles Lloyd Jones, representatives of the Australian National Travel Association. To-mor-row he will be the guest of honour of the Empire Parliamentary Association at the State Parliament House. Mr Hamilton and party were met on arrival at the wharf this morning by the Australian Director of Posts and Telegraphs (Mr J. W. Kitto). a representative of the Empire Parliamentary Association (Mr H. Hartnett) and Mr L. J. Schmitt (New Zealand Government Commissioner).
