FIXTURES. February 16—Christchurch Defence Rifle Club's final two-range comFebruary lo !'*.—Rangiora Defence Rifle Club’s ninth club competition. February 16—Timaru Defence Club's long-range competition. March 1 to 6—National meeting and King’s Prize match at Trentham. Kelson Rifle Meeting. The Nelson Rifle Association held a successful meeting last week. The shooting was of a fairly high standard and there was a good attendance. The championship was won by T. Carter, who narrowly defeated F. Sharland, who is also well known to South island riflemen. The totals were 230 and 229 respeetivelv out of a possible 245. Other good scores off the rifle were: B. B. Jones 224, R. M. Inwood 222 and J. Vi tel la 221. Possibles were registered by T. Carter (300yds and 500yds), W. Sutherland (500yds) and R. Inwood (60Oyds). The first match (300yds and 600yds) was won by H. L. Frank (69). B. B. Jones was second with 67. The 300yds and 5003-ds was won by T. Carter with a double possible. F. Sharland was second with 68 out of a possible of 70. In the 300yds, 500yds and 600yds match H. Day won with 97, In wood being second with 96—a close finish. Auckland Championship. Captain H. Simmonds put up a record when he won the Auckland championship last week. His aggregate points were 196 out of a possible 200 (four matches). Captain Simmonds is one of the Dominion's most brilliant shots and lias had many successes at Trentham. His scores for his recent success, when he won every match on the programme, were:—President's Match (ten shots at 200yds), 49 out of 50; Whangarei Match (ten shots at 300yds), 49; Auckland Match (ten shots at 500yds), 50, the possible; and the Onehunga Match (ten shots at GOOyds), 48. Each of these matches was worth £2 10s to the winner. The placings in the optional aggregate were:—Captain Simmonds 97, £3: F. Bowes, 96, £2; J. H. Ashton, 95, £1 10s. Bowes, who with Captain Simmonds shoots for the City Club, Auckland, had the unique experience of being runner-up in four matches. The final placings for the championship were: Captain Simmonds, 196, £3 10s; F. Bowes, 188, £2 10s; C. Roebuck, IS6, £2; J. R. Draffin, 185, £l.

West Coast Match. A match which gives promise of becoming an annual one was fired during the week-end at Greymouth between the Christchurch Defence Rifle Club and a combined team representing the Greymouth and Brunner Clubs. The first of the series was held last year. The visitors were entertained by the West Coast clubs during their stay in Greymouth, the arrangements being in the capable hands of Messrs G. Joyce (president) and M. Garth (secretary) of the Greymouth Club. The match, which was keenly contested, was won by Christchurch by six points. D. Harries 95 and R. Neill 95 were topscorers for Christchurch, and G. Smith 94. T. Garth 94 and T. Prendergast 94 returned the best cards for the Coast team. Scores:—

The Christchurch Defence Rifle Club fired the fourth three-range competition at Tai Tapu on Saturday afternoon. The weather was warm, with a nor’easterly wind, which was inclined to be tricky. The winner was D. Harries, who shot, well, putting on 101 off the rifle. G. Hepburn was second, with 95 plus a handicap of 5 points. Scores were as follows: 300 500 600

City Outdoor Club. Miss M. Fleming shot well beyond expectations to win the first series of the City Outdoor Club championship, fired on Saturday afternoon at Garland’s range. W. Tritt scored! a very good possible at 50yds. He was again run-ner-up. Results:—

A trophy donatec? by W. Barrett will be fired for next Saturday over 50yds and 100yds. A special invitation is extended to members of other clubs who are competing at the New Zealand small-bore championship at Trentham.
