Free transport has been provided for petty officers and men of H.M.A.S. Australia on the excursion on Arthur’s Pass on Sunday, January 20. The Christchurch committee which is responsible for the entertainment of the officers and men. decided to arrange the trip, and recently wrote to the Prime Minister asking that free transport should be granted, as the Railway Department had stated that no concessions could be made. At a meeting of the committee yesterday afternoon, a letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs, advising that arrangements had been made for free transport.
