SUB-STATION SITE.
Location Will Probably Be Changed. The location of the electrical sub station on the roadway in Barrington Street, sft the junction of Somerfleld Street, is considered by the Somerfleld Burgesses’ Association to constitute a danger to the district. Representations were made to the Electricity Committee of the City Council, and at the meeting of the association last night a reply was received from the general manager of the Municipal Electricity Department (Mr E. Hitchcock). He stated that the Electricity Committee had had prepared an estimate for moving the substation to a temporary site, pending more permanent developments. The site would be the department’s section on the east side of Barrington Street nearly opposite Rose Street. The cost would be about £SOO and the proposal would be dependent upon several conditions which concerned the Town Planning Committee, the Public Works Department and the Post and Telegraph Department. The matter might possibl> r be effected relatively soon by a movement now on foot to bring Cashmere within the city’s electrical supply. That possibility would materially influence the location of the next sub-station and the committee decided that its outcome should be awaited.
