ATTACK ON GIRL.
Police Investigating Case at Westport. VICTIM UNCONSCIOUS. (Special to the ” Star.”) WESTPORT, January 10. Detectives and police are investigating the brutal assault on a girl, Muriel M’Donagh, eighteen years of age, on Monday night. The victim, who was still unconscious to-day, was found unconscious on the verandah of a residence about seventy yards from the street in w'hich she was proceeding to her home. She left a girl friend just before the time the assault must have taken place and did not mention that she intended calling anywhere before going home. Her friend understood that she was going home immediately. It is considered that the girl w r as attacked immediately after leaving her friend and was carried to the verandah of the residence where she was found. Threateping Letters. Under ordinary circumstances it might be surmised that the girl had beeen taken ill suddenly and had fallen, but she had been receiving anonymous threatening letters, as had her friends, making it appear that the assault was premeditated. The victim is popular and of good character, being a member of a wellknown Westport family. When discovered she had a note inside her clothing on w'hich w'ere written the words “Revenge is sweet.” The assault took place at 9 p.m., but inquiries among the residents in the vicinity throw no light on the matter. The streets were unfrequented, as the night w'as stormy.
