In Sydney and Melbourne the term " suicide blonde ” is quite common. It was used by Mr G. Rosenbaum, of Wellington, in the course of an interview on his return from Australia by the Monowai, and. as he pointed out, it refers to girls who have “ dyed by their own hands,” that is, girls whose hair has taken on a pale golden colour or is a copy of Jean Harlow’s ” platinum.” Mr Rosenbaurh said he was surprised to notice the number of “ suicide blondes ” in Melbourne and Sydney.
