CYCLING DISPUTE.
Grievance of Canterbury Centre. A fresh dispute has arisen over the control of cycling- in New Zealand, members of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association alleging, at a meeting last evening, that the centre was being ignored and belittled by the association. Mr G. R. Giles said that the association had been asked by the centre to try to arrange the New Zealand cycling championships so that they could be held at the same time as the athletic championships, at Wanganui. The association bad replied that inquiries had been made, and it was found impossible to do so. The cycling championships would be held at. Petone, as previously decided. But. continued Mr Giles, prominent athletic officials had told him that on no occasion had the cycling authorities approached the X.Z.A.A A. on the question of holding the championships jointly. The Canterbury Centre bad been ignored, for it was apparent that the association had taken no action. Mr T. A. Grose said that the centre had received no satisfaction on this and on former occasions. The association should be shown that It could not do as it liked, and the centre had the power to do this. Mr Giles suggested that the centre should send the association a strong letter, deprecating the position, and asking for better service. After further discussion three pronosals were put forward. All were defeated.
