The Citizens’ Entertainment Committee has received a donation of £lO from the Heathcote County Council to _ assist in meeting the cost of entertaing the crew of H.M.A.S. Australia. The rats which made their appearance following a fire in the rubbish pit at Middleton are doomed. The Waimairi County Council has engaged a rat poisoner, and during the past three days he has been going about his work systematically. Strychnine is being used and it is being cloaked in many forms in order to get the rats to take it. Already a large number have been destroyed.
