RETURNING TO BASE.

Byrd’s Tractor Party Finish Task. LITTLE AMERICA, December 8. The Marie Byrd Land sledging party, now fifty-five days out on field explorations, has radioed that it has started on its return trip to the base camp of the Byrd Expedition. Recently radio communications have been brief as the storage battery supply of power had all but failed, but laconic reports indicate that the scientists are pleased with their accomplishments. For the past fortnight or more no complaints of difficulties have been made, but the

aviators at the base, who have flown over the territory, report that the party’s progress must have been made over many obstacles.
