SHOT IN SHOULDER.

Youth is Accidentally Wounded. ACCIDENT AT SELWYN. Through the accidental discharge of a .22 Winchester repeater rifle a youth named Hugh Wright Stephenson, of 219 Riccarton Road, was shot in the shoulder in the Selwyn riverbed at 6.30 o’clock yesterday morning. Stephenson, in company with three friends, Samuel Plant, Frank Dynes and Frederick S. Cope, arrived at the Selwyn riverbed shortly after five o'clock yesterday morning, their object being to shoot rabbits. After an hour and a half shooting they decided to return to their motor-car for breakfast and when nearing the car Plant, who was walking with his rifle cocked, slipped and fell, his rifle discharging. Stephenson, who was some five yards in front, received the charge in his right shoulder. He was taken to the Rolleston Hotel, and after receiving medical attention was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital. His condition is satisfactory. Car and Cycle Collide. Injuries to the face and arms were received b}' Mr G. Stowell, King Street, Sydenham, when the motor-cycle he was riding collided with a motor-car at the corner of Bealev Avenue and Victoria Street yesterday morning. The injured man was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital in the St John Ambulance. His condition is not serious. Caught by Clay. Painful injuries were suffered by Mr A. G. Williams, a member of the Heathcote County Council, when he was partly buried by a fall of clay at his home at Redcliffs on Saturday. Mr Williams was undermining a clay bank when it fell without warning, and he was pinned down by the legs. Fortunately he was not completely covered, and it was not exceptionally difficult to extricate him. He was removed to his house, where injuries to his legs were treated. Two Men Injured. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, December 9. While engaged in blasting operations on the Te Anau-Milford Sound Road on Saturday morning, two njen were injured by flying pieces of rock. They were admitted to the Southland Hospital in the afternoon. Francis Claude Havdon. aged thirtyfour, a single man, was struck on the chest by a large piece of rock, and his injuries are stated to be serious. Edward M’Pherson, aged thirty-two, single, also suffered chest injuries, but in his case they are in the nature of smaller abrasions, and his condition is reported to be satisfactory.
