Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. CHRISTMAS PARTY. Pupils of the New Brighton Methodist Sunday School primary department spent an enjoyable time on Saturday afternoon, when the annual Christmas party was held in the Sunday School hall. There were about sixty children and their mothers present at the invitation of the primary superintendent (Miss Dulcie Hull,) and the teaching staff. The Christmas tree was kept screened from view until the arrival of Father Christmas, when each child received a gift. Afternoon tea was served to the parents. Miss Hull was assisted by the following teachers: Mrs R. Pepperell, Misses Thora Shilstone, Winsome Dean and Eveljn Carmalt. Items were contributed by Marjorie Carmalt and Allan Bell. Tennis Club Dance. A successful dance was held in the Masonic Hall on Saturday evening by the New Brighton Tennis Club. The organisation of the dance was carried out by a committee consisting of Misses D. Stevens. N. Skinner, E. Tillyshort and M. Davison, Messrs N. Dean, F. JTeald, F. Aldridge, F. Parsonage arid K. Hardie (secretary). Music was provided by Seymour's orchestra and Mr F. Aldridge was M.C. Among those present were: Mesdames Joseph, D. Walter, T. Bennett, R. Sloane, K. Dowson, E. Roach, C. J. Mllly Jackson, Laura Ellis, Nancy Paynter and Jill Shand. Surf Club Dance. The opening dance of the South Brighton Surf Bathing and Eife Saving Club was held in the pavilion on Saturday evening. The dance was organised by the executive of the club, with Mr C. Kite as convener, and the pavilion was decorated with the club’s colours. Music was supplied by Smart's orchestra and Mr F. Cribb was M.C. Competition dances were won by Mr S. Mason and partner and Mr and Mrs Ilewinson. Among those present were: Mesdames W. G. Forsey, F. Macdonald. Misses M. Small. W. Miller, D. Members of the New Brighton subbranch of the R.S.A. held a successful dance in the Pier Hall on Saturday evening. The dance was organised by the Social Committee. consisting of Messrs T. Qua id (chairman), A. Nesbitt. R. Andrew’s, W. Barclay (secretary) and R. D. Kennedy. Music was provided by tlie Regal dance orchestra and Mr R. D. Kennedy was M.C. Flannel Dance. An enjoyable flannel dance was held on Saturday evening in the Sumner Masonic Hall. The social committee of the Sumner Tennis Club, who were responsible for the arrangements, were as follows: Mrs R. W. Gale. Misses Kathleen Hampton, Hazel Cook, Margaret Smith, Eleanor Turnbull and Jocelyn Turner, Messrs R. Huston, G. Browne and L. K Jones. Those present included: Mesdames P. - Li.
