FETE AT PAPANUI.
St Giles Presbyterian Church. To raise funds for St Giles Presbyterian Church, Papanui, a successful garden fete was held at the Presbyterian Boys’ Home, Bligh’s Road, on Saturday. The Rev E. Bandy, in opening the proceedings, congratulated the stall-holders on their fine display. The judge’s award in the baby show was: Under six months, Frederick Wall 1. David Thackwell 2; over one year. Ann Summers 1. The competition for decorated prams resulted: Bonny Kruse 1, Joan Mercer 2, Clara Barnard 3. Mrs Cordy was judge in both events.
The stall-holders were: Work, Mesdames Dalle}’-, sen., Jordon, Morrison. Graham; cakes, Mesdames Quirk and Fraser; produce. Mesdames Kruse, sen., and Barnard, sen.; sweets, Misses Cone and Davies; “White Elephant.” Mesdames Barton and Hubert; icecream and soft drinks, Misses Peggy Harman and Eunice Neill; fish pond, Mrs Brownell and Miss Dulcie Neill; tea-room. Mesdames W. M’Causland, August, Sneddon. Hyde, Haynes; sideshows, Messrs Calder, French and Dodds. During the afternoon acrobatics and tricks were shown by “ Tim ” and his performing dogs.
