The Mayoralty.
Dear Sir.—lt is amusing to see what is the best the Labour Party can do in the way of finding suitable candidates for the Mayoralty. I see that the nominations for the Labour selection are limited to Mr Sullivan and the Rev J. K. Archer, each ot whom has had lengthy periods in office. Apparently, the Labour Party in Christchurch has no other leaders.
Looking around at the public bodies on ■which Labour has representation, and in some cases, control, the striking point of the whole collection is that every man is no longer young. If Labour wishes to rule the roost in Christchurch in the future as it has in the past, it will have to find some new men—young men who are thinkers and who can put forward something more practical than the Socialism talk which is brought out after an election and carefully concealed before the poll takes place. As Labour is apparently bereft of suitable new men for the Mayoralty, it is high time that some other body found a young, energetic man. to contest this office. \ change from the Labour regime would be welcome and the best place to start the change would be at the top —I am etc ELECTOR. ’
