TWO BIG PICTURES.
“ Warn London 99 and “ Girls Please.” What may be classed as an entertainment feast is offered at the Civic AllBritish Theatre to-day where British Dominions Films present two star attractions. In the first, “Warn London,” Edmund Gwenn, England’s finest character actor, is given his first starring role. Outstanding performances in such successes as “Tell Me To-night,” “Good Companions” and “I Was a Spy” have earned for Gwenn an enviable position, and as Dr Krauss, the eminent criminologist, he is seen in what is his strongest and most dramatic role. An exceptionally strong supporting cast includes Leonora Corbett (last .seen in “Love on Wheels”), John Loder, Garry Marsh and D. A. Clarke-Smith. An intriguing plot deals with Dr Krauss, a scientific German criminologist, who after being ruined in a financial swindle, turns criminal and uses his genius in the opposite direction so that he can reap his revenge. In contrast to this drama is “Girls Please,” the second attraction, in which the inimitable Sydney Howard is the star. This is the last film Howard completed for the British studios before leaving to fulfil his Hollywood contract. One can imagine the hilarious incidents that are likely to occur when Sydney is left in charge of a young ladies’ finishing school. Wholesome comedy is the keynote of a plot that has not one dull moment.
Box plans are open at the \heatre, where seats may be reserved at no extra cost.
