While the League Council meeting was debating the Yugoslavian charges against Hungary there were Pjtiful scenes on the border thousands o men, women and children, carrying their valuables on their backs, were herded all night across the frontier under police escort, following a \ ugoslavian expulsion order. Most of the refugees were given only twenty-four hours’ notice, and in some cases were hurried straight from their homes to the police stations and thence to the border, without being given a chance to pack. The cold and rain added to their privations.
