CRICKET.

Country Team Plays Colts. The annual match between the country cricketers representing the pick of the players in the sub-associations of Canterbury, and a team of colts representing the Canterbury Association, commenced at Hagley Park to-day. The Country team made a poor start in their first innings. A. D. Park shifted the leg stump of H. W. F. Hamilton, the Country skipper, in the second over of the match, and H. Hiatt, after two good strokes, gave Page a catch off M. Patrick. The scoring was slow, though M’Cartnev tried to force the pace, 50 taking seventy minutes to make. M’Cartney lifted Waine to Vincent, and three wickets were down for 37. Stone and M estwood stonewalled painfullv for a long while, till Stone was bowled bv Butterfield.
