The trial of the new gaseous discharge lamps at the Bank of New Zealand corner and Cook and Ross s corner, is now in progress. To avoid burning the new lamps needlessly before they are installed in their per manent position in Riccarton Avenu'* the old lighting was not removed at these two points, until last evening, when the old lamps were taken out. so that the new lighting could be observed as it would be if made permanent. The gaseous lamps will be removed todav. Work is now proceeding on the installation of the new gaseous discharge lamps on Riccarton Avenue.
