A recent winer in Melbourne was the four-year-old pacer Harabond, by Worthy Bond—Haricot, who was bred at the Mardella Stud, in Auckland. Three years ago Haricot and the foal Harabond were sold to go to Tasmania, but on arrival in Sydney the foal was taken off the boat and sent to Queensland to Mr D. Knox, who sold him to a Victorian sportsman after his victory. Haricot was a good free-legged pacer when trained by A. J. Julian at Epsom some years ago. She was bred in Australia, being by Harry Alto from Katie O. NEEDS EXPERIENCE. The novice pacer, Carageen, started in both trotting events at the Ashburton County Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, but did not begin too well in either race. He is in need of racing experience, but when he gains confidence he will repay his owner for his outlay. BIG TEAM FOR EPSOM. For many years Mr G. J. Barton has patronised the Auckland Trotting Club’s Christmas meetings, and he has enjoyed considerable success at Epsom. He intends sending a big team for the approaching summer carnival. Indianapolis and Tempest are the star members, and it is quite likely that Bracken, Carl, Compass and Rongomai will make the trip. SATIN KING. O. E. Hooper intends to give Satin King one more trial. Before so doing he will have the gelding’s legs fired and blistered, and when a course of treatment has been completed, Satin King will be given a long spell. He will be taken up in time for next season’s racing, and it is hoped that the patient policy to be pursued will enable him to stand a preparation. AT EPSOafc A feature of the work at Epsom on Thursday last was a solid two miles by the Auckland Royal Trotting Cup candidate Kewpie’s Triumph, who was assisted by Realty, the pair finishing the effort with a fast-run half-mile. The Derby colt Proletarian was responsible for a smart sprint, and Kewpie’s Crest also shaped pleasingly. The dirt track was in fine order. Kewpie’s Triumph (W. Gee) went away two lengths behind Realty (E. S. Groat) from the two-mile post, Kewpie’s Crest (J. Gee) joined in at the end of the first half, and taking a good start. Kewpie’s Triumph just failed to reach Realty in the run home, returning 4min 45sec. and Realty clocking 4min 45 4-ssec. Kewpie’s Crest hung on well in the final stages, being close up to register 3min 36sec for the mile and a half. The pace was not on early, Realty taking Kewpie’s Triumph to the half in lmin 16sec and the mile in 2min 31 sec. They improved the speed on the last circuit, when they went after Kewpie’s Crest, who led into the straight and went on gamely at the finish. Realty ran the last half resolutely in lmin Msec, while Kewpie’s Triumph came over the last mile in 2min 14sec. Kewpie’s Crest went the last half in lmin 7sec, and is improving with solid work. ~ * * * The Dunedin sportsman, Mr G. J. Barton, will attend the Auckland Trotting Club’s Christmas meeting and then go on to Sydney and Melbourne. IN MOTOR ACCIDENT. B. Jarden was involved in a motor accident on Saturday and spent the night in the Gore Hospital. He received facial injuries which required three stitches, and he was badly shaken. He was well enough to go home on Sunday. He was present at the Winton Jockev Club’s meeting on Friday and Saturday, and accepted a ride home in a friend’s motor-car. The roads were very dusty, and the car in which Jarden was travelling collided with another vehicle. CONSISTENT. The five-vear-old gelding, Sage King, is building a fine record for consistency. In his last six starts he has been six times in the money, his record being one first, three seconds and two thirds. At the Ashburton County Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday he ran second to Noble Prince in the Mayfield Handicap, which was decided over one mile and a half. Fie began well, as usual, and although he finished better than Noble Prince, he could not bridge the three lengths advantage Noble Prince gained on him in the first furlong Sage King covered the distance in 3min 22 2-ssec from a 3min 39sec mark. lie is by Sonoma Harvester from Dolly Woodburn, and is trained by W. K. Tatterson. Sage King’s consistency will bring its reward at the holiday meetings. TROTTING FIXTURES. December B—New Brighton T C. December S—Te Aroha T.C. December 3 s—Hororata T.C.
