REMARKABLE SCENE.

Royal Couple Pelted With Rose Petals. DEPARTURE ON HONEYMOON. British Official Wireless. (Received November 30, 12.55 p.m.) RUGBY, November 29. The popular welcome to the newlymarried pair on their way from the Abbey to Buckingham Palace expressed itself in almost continuous cheering, to which the Duke and Duchess graciously responded with smiles and hand-waving. It was renewed later after the wedding breakfast at the palace, at which 120 guests attended, when, under a rain of rose petals, silver horseshoes and lovers’ knots, with which the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of York and other members o c the Royal family pelted them, the Ro3 r al couple in a semi-State landau, drawn by four of the famous Windsor greys, set off from the palace on their honeymoon. Police Horses on Platform. The calling up of the mounted police was the sequel to a determined effort by thousands of women to catch a farewell glimpse of the honeymooners. The pressure on the platforms was so severe that the leaders of the crowd were forced against the rear end of the train. Some men climbed to the roof of the last carriage, others commandeered the rear engine, clustering along its top and sides. Women Scream. Women screamed as the police horses were forced through the crowd on the platform. There was some alarm and a few cases of fainting before the police mastered the situation. Rose petals and confetti were still on the Duke’s coat as he entered the train. His dog, Dushka, which is the Russian word for “ darling,” waited in the train with the Duke’s valet and the Duchess’s maid. When the shouts heralded his master’s arrival, the dog pranced at the window. Dushka was the only visitor admitted to the Duke and Duchess of Kent’s saloon. Departing on the honeymoon the Duke wore a brown suit and Princess Marina an almond green tweed costume, trimmed with fur at the collar and cuffs. She wore a hat of the same material. Spectacle at Palace. Probably the most impressive scene during the day occurred when, after returning from the celebration of the Greek Church ceremony in the private chapel at Buckingham Palace, the bride and bridegroom appeared on a balcony in front of the palace, before which an enormous crowd, which filled the great enclosure around the Queen Victoria Memorial and stretched far up the Mall, had assembled. They were joined by the King and Queen and Prince and Princess Nicholas and some other members of the Royal party, including the little Princess Margaret Rose. There was a particularly warm cheer when the King raised his youngest grandchild in his arms for her to wave to the crowd.
