MUSICAL CLUB.
Final Meeting Held at Papanui.
At the beginning of this year, Miss Nancy Gard’ner, realising that many of her friends had musical talents which they could seldom be induced to demonstrate in public, founded a small society known as the Musical Club. Members of the club, all young girls, have since met monthly at each other’s homes, and have enjoyed music and singing. Jt is one of the principles of the club that all the members should be ready to perform when called upon, and this has had the effect of bringing to light much unexpected talent. The final meeting for this year was held on Wednesday evening at Miss Eunoe Thompson’s home in Papanui Road. Pianoforte solos were given by Miss Nancy Gard’ner, Miss Halmai Loughnan, Miss Barbara Bloxam, Miss Ina Buchanan and Miss Brigit Gresson, and songs were sung by Miss Joan Gard’ner and Miss Chrystobel Bowen. The great event of the evening, however, was the rendering of a Greig Sonata by Miss Lettice Loughnan (piano) and Mrs F. S. Grant (violin). This was so much appreciated by members of the club that the performers were persuaded to repeat their item. Others present, who did not take part in the programme, were Miss Barbara Griffiths, Miss Joan Cooper and Miss Rae Cuff, of Ashburton. All were later entertained at supper by Miss ThompMiss Gard’ner is delighted with the success of this venture. The club meetings will begin once more in February of next year.
