HANMER SPRINGS.
Scheme to Improve Bathing Facilities. Suggestions for improved bathing ! facilities at Ilanmer Springs -were set I out in a letter from the Hanmer Springs j Progress League which was read at a meeting of the Canterbury League last evening. It was stated that the Hanmer League had passed a resolution, ” That this meeting is unanimously of the opinion that the bathing facilities at Ilanmer Springs are neither adequate nor attractive and respectfully requests the Government to take steps to effect improvements and thus eliminate this frequent cause of complaints by visitors. We suggest that facilities be provided for mixed bathing, that a separate swimming bath for children be provided and that a full-sized, up-to-date bath be built as established at RotoDevelopment of Hanmer. It w r as also the opinion of Hanmer Springs Progress League that the development of the natural thermal activity of Hanmer Springs would prove a powerful attraction to overseas visitors and would be of benefit to Canterbury. So far the springs had been merely used for curing certain diseases, and this was not considered a desirable policy. The resolution had been forwarded to the Prime Minister for consideration. The Canterbury League last night discussed the resolution and agreed that if properly handled Ilanmer would be of great importance to Canterbury. It was resolved that the Hanmer .Springs Progress League be asked to send two delegates to the next meeting of the executive to provide all necessary information.
