TROTTING NOTES.

SB EBBS mill SHU HI HI (USUI [*lo® SHU BBSBE JJANDICAPS for the third day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting will be posted in the club’s rooms this evening, at 7.15 o’clock. Acceptances are due at 9 p.m. A CHANGE OF STABLES. The novice pacer Murici Bond, formerly trained at Takanini by F. J. Smith, has joined J. G. Robertson’s team, and will in future be trained at Otahuhu. Muriel Bond has shown a great turn of speed in her training, and she should not be long in returning some of her purchase money.

A. Brown is keeping Auto Machine going in slow work at Epsom, and the black pacer is in great order to undergo a solid preparation for engagements at the Auckland meeting in December. He was accepted for at the recent meeting at Epsom, but failed to keep his engagement owing to the soft track. At his best Auto Machine is a brilliant pacer, but his record is not a good one, owing to his tendency to break at the start of a race and nullifying his prospects. ADDITION TO STABLE. F. J. Smith is again working the grey gelding Betterwin at Takanini. and the son of Worthy Bond is working along satisfactorily. At the Auckland August meeting Betterwin was produced in the Grey Lynn Handicap, won by Peter Junior, but, after being up with the leaders all the way, he faded out in the run home, and was in fourth place at the post. The race should benefit him considerably, and the son of Worthv Bond may be worth remembering in future engagements. W. CLIFTON’S PACERS, Clifton has made another start with his tiseful pair. Peter Junior and Gold Dredge at Takanini, while he is also educating a very fine-looking two-year-old by Frank Worthy from Logan Queen, a Logan Pointer mare, who took a mile race record of 2.12 some years ago. Peter Junior, who was taken over by Clifton only at the end of last season, was not long in making a return, for he- won at the August meeting, returning a substantial dividend. The win was costly from a handicap point of view, as, after failing from his correct mark, 3.3, he won from a 3min mark. However, he raced in such | improved style that he will have : orospects of further success. Gold Dredge showed promise as a threeI year-old last season, and should prove use. ul this season. WALL A WALL VS EFFORT S. Though he failed to get a place in the mile Bass Handicap at Ascot (Melbourne) recently, Walla Walla showed that he was at the top of his form by covering the mile from a flying start in 2min 4?see. The fastest winning time for the distance in Victoria stands to the credit of Auburn Lad at 2min 9?sec. ‘ln the Bass Handicap Walla Walla started at 144yds behind. so his failure to finish in a place, even though recording exceptional time, can be excused. He was timed to cover his last half-mile in lmin Isec. Walla Walla won the Free-for-All at Melbourne yesterday, beating Auburn Lad and Dalla Derbv. When Mr L. S. Martin, owner of Walla Walla, and Mr W. M’Kay, owner of Auburn Lad, visited New Zealand last Easter, they stated that Walla Walla was Auburn Lad’s superior, and that these horses were the best pacers in Australia. Walla Walla’s recent success suggests that he was not at his best when he made an attempt to lower the existing mile record for New Zealand and Australia at Addington, but it will be remembered that Auburn Lad paced a mile at headquarters in 2min 2 2-ssec. which equalled Walla Walla’s record at Harold Park.
