MASKED BALL.

Effort to Aid Girl Guide Funds. A SPICE OF MYSTERY. The distribution of masks to the guests at the carnival ball held in the Caledonian Hall last night, in aid of the Girl Guide funds, lent an air of mystery and added to the excitement of the evening, and the efforts of the guests to pierce their friends’ disguises caused much amusement and hilarity. Decorations for the party consisted of massed clusters of gaily coloured balloons hanging from the ceiling, while on the stage was a bowl of arum lilies painted a vivid scarlet. Showers of confetti were released on the dancers, all adding to the gaiety of the evening. Supper was served in the room behind the stage. Committee Members. The committee who planned this enjoyable ball comprised: Mesdames H. Barker. J. G. L. Vernon, Ernest Boulton. Guy Cotterill. J. H. Grigg and Marmaduke Bethell, Alisses D. Anderson, Elisabeth Morris. Elizabeth Alpers. Elisabeth Acland, Barbara Bloxam. Xonie Enright and Vera Fox. Alessrs Heathcote Ilelmore, Basil Smyth. Tyndall Harman. Bernard Wilkes, George Francis and G. B. Gebbie. Airs Barker’s wine red georgette frock was embroidered in crystal beading on the cape sleeves. ATrs Cotterill’s frock of green, black and white patterned ninon had a green velvet sash. Airs Bethell wore an aster blue flat crepe frock with a little capelet to match. Miss Anderson’s black Chantilly lace frock was worn with a black velvet coatee. Aliss Morris wore a silk faille frock in a lovely shade of deep maize and a geranium red velvet coatee. Aliss Alpers wore a frilled organdie frock in a deep capri blue. A deep beige angel-skin lace frock with a sash of raisin brown velvet was worn by Aliss Acland. Miss Bloxam’s frock of marshmallow pink silk crepe had shoulder frills dipping down at

the back to meet the half sash, which tied in a bow. Aliss Fox’s black taffetas gown was trimmed with a flat ruching round the neck. Aliss Nonie Enright’s chiffon frock was patterned in soft blue, cherry and green on a white background. The Bailev-Alarston Orchestra was in charge of the musical programme. The Guests.
