FASHIONS AT THE TROTS.

SMART ENSEMBLES. Bright and Varied Styles Worn. That trotting meetings are gaining favour, particularly with the womenfolk. was emphasised at Addington today. when a specially large crowd of enthusiasts gathered to witness the running of the Xew Zealand Trotting Cup. The large number of women presnt among the crowd was particularly noticeable, and an infectious spirit of enthusiasm and gaiety was abroad. For many people the running of the New Zealand Cup is one of the big events of the year. The weather. too, had played its part, the sun shining brilliantly into the sheltered grandstands. enabling the women to cast aside their wraps and bask contentedly in the warmth. To do honour to this important occasion many smart ensembles were worn, the most conspicuously successful being the swagger ensembles comprising seven-eighths coat and accompanying frock. Patterned and plain materials were smartly combined in many of these outfits. Severe tailormade suits also imparted to their wearers that air of suitable smartness so rigorously to be sought. The new linen tweeds in pastel blues, pinks and greens were among the most charming fabrics used for these little suits. The wide-brimmed hats which have been one of the outstanding features of this race week’s fashions were in the main laid aside in favour of smaller models, fashioned on more manageable lines. On the whole the dressing was both bright and varied, blue still retaining their popularity, though red also had its adherents, while black was used for one or two striking ensembles.
