COLLEGE APPOINTMENT.

Statement by Chairman of Council. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr P. Levi, chairman of the Victoria College Council, stated to-day in connection with last night’s discussion in the House of Representatives, that he cannot disclose matters that have occurred in committee, although some of the members had been talking. He said, however, that statements made in the House by the Leader of the Opposition and Mr Walter Nash were misleading. There were circumstances which prevented any announcement being made at present as to the appointment to the Chair of History. It might be stated, however, that the question considered by the council in committee was the respective merits of two candidates, each with very good qualifications and supported by excellent testimonials.
