“HOLLYWOOD PARTY.”
Majestic Offers Sparkling Comedy. An all-star cast, lilting music, hilariotis comedy, spectacular settings and costumes and romance are all included in “ Hollywood Party,” this week’s attraction at the Majestic Theatre. This film brings to the screen an entirely new form of entertainment, in that a logical dramatic story, including a love romance, is featured, and into it are woven all the novelties of a musical show. The comedy is really good, and makes the show most entertaining. Perhaps the cast is one of the most impressive features. Laurel and Hardy can make pictures by themselves, but besides these are Jimmy Durante, alreadj' one of the most popular of comedians, Polly Moran, whose riotous love affair with Durante adds much to the hilarity of the piece, and Lupe \ elez, whose charm and intense vitality have contributed to the success of many of the most popular films. Then there is Jack Pearl and his Stooges, Charles Butterworth, George Givot, and last, but certainly not least, Mickey Mouse, who is introduced into the production through clever camera effects. The story deals with the rivalry of Schnarzan (Durante), a jungle star, and his rival Liondora (Givot), both trying to cheat each other out of a cargo of new lions for their motion pictures. However, Schnarzan’s following begin to leave him, and, in or 7? er to re Sain his popularity, he gives a Hollywood Party.” What happens at this party provides hilarious fun. Through all the story runs a romance between June Clyde and Eddie Quillan. Bright musical numbers are included in the film, and new ballets and excellent singing add to its success. The supporting programme includes a newsreel showing various stages of the Melbourne Centenary Air Race. Scott and the winners, are shown arriving at Melbourne and at the civic reception, and other prominent flyers are introduced at various points of the trip. A travelogue, “The Big Ditch of Panama,” a good comedv and other newsreels complete an excellent programme.
